In 2014, Elena Makievsky saw a post about sending post cards to a brave warrior named Phoenix that was battling childhood cancer. As an artist, Elena contacted Phoenix’s mom to ask what the young child would like to be painted. She requested a painting of the Pheonix bird. This sparked the idea for to offer free paintings to other childhood cancer fighters around the globe. She started her own 200 Paintings Challenge.
Our mission is to bring joy to kids fighting childhood cancer through art. Every year, she paints and donates 200 paintings to kids all over the world. Over 1,200 paintings later, she continues to paint and advocate for kids battling childhood cancer. In February 2019, Canvas for Hope started the “ Show Me Your Gold” movement to further spread awareness of childhood cancer by giving away free gold ribbons to those wishing to share in the fight!
